Hey, bookworms! It's my first blog post! Hooray!!
(Is that too many exclamation points to start off my first post? Probably...) Today I'm going to share my answers to the questions from the Book Blog Newbie Tag! First, however, I should introduce myself: my name is Rose, and I'm the person behind this blog and also the bookstagram Books of Magic and Mystery. I'm currently a student, so blogging and bookstagramming are just hobbies of mine. I have two cats, Cuddles and Snuggles, and a rabbit, Fluffy, all of whom you can see adorable photos of on my Instagram! (I have a feeling that everyone is now abandoning my blog post and rushing over to my Instagram to see cute animal photos. I don't blame you, people. Furry friends are seriously adorable.) Some of my other favorite pastimes include baking, playing piano, hiking, and playing board games with my family (I'm a total Scrabble word nerd). Okay, so now that I've introduced myself, let's get started with the Book Blog Newbie Tag! 1. Why did you start this blog? The main reason I started this blog is just because it seemed like a whole lot of fun! I've been on bookstagram for several months and have made some wonderful friends in the book community, some of whom have fabulous book blogs that I thought looked so cool. And I thought, well, why not start one myself? So here I am now! 2. What are some fun and unique things you can bring to book blogging? I want to provide lots of fun book reviews and book recommendations for you all! I'm also planning to do book tags and start some discussions about bookish topics--maybe about a book itself, or even just about how you organize your bookshelves, or what genres you like and dislike and why! I also plan on hosting readathons; I recently hosted one on my bookstagram to celebrate Banned Books Week, and I'm excited to be able to promote future readathons on this blog! 3. What are you most excited for about this new blog? I'm excited to connect with more readers and bloggers and create new friendships in the book community! I'm also delighted to have the opportunity to share my love of reading with you all. 4. Why do you love reading? I love being transported to magical lands and experiencing through the written word things that I'll probably never get to experience in real life. Reading is very relaxing to me, too, and can be a much-needed break from reality. I also like that reading can help me better understand others who have different lives, experiences, and thoughts than I do. 5. What book or series got you into reading? When I was younger, I loved the Magic Tree House series, which is one of the series that kindled my love of reading. However, the series that got me fully obsessed with reading was The Land of Stories. I can't emphasize enough how obsessed I was with those books; I got my first copy of book 1, The Land of Stories: The Wishing Spell, when I was nine, and since then I must have read that book at least ten times, probably more. I read all the books in the series as they came out over the years, and then I got the pleasure of meeting the author, Chris Colfer, at a book release event last year! So I'd definitely say that The Land of Stories is what got me completely hooked on reading. 6. What questions would you ask your favorite authors? There are a million questions I'd love to ask my favorite authors! Since I'm a writer, I think it would be really interesting to inquire about my favorite authors' writing processes, especially concerning character development. 7. What challenges do you think starting a blog will be the hardest to overcome? I think the biggest challenge for me will be keeping my blog updated and providing new content frequently. 8. When did you start reading? My parents read to me a lot when I was little, but I don't know if that really counts as me reading. Still, I started reading when I was pretty young--I've always loved books, even as a little kid. 9. Where do you read? I usually read in bed or on the couch, but I'll read anywhere! 10. What kind of books do you read? I primarily read Young Adult fiction, though I sometimes read Middle-Grade, too. Fantasy and mystery are my favorite genres (hence my blog name), but I also enjoy reading contemporary, romance, thriller, and dystopian! I occasionally read graphic novels, but not very often. I don't read nonfiction much, either, though I have read several good nonfiction YA books these past few months. Well, that's it for the Book Blog Newbie Tag! If you're a newbie book blogger, feel free to do this tag. Also, if you have a book blog, please leave the name of it or link to it below in the comments--I'd love to check it out! Thanks for reading, and check back soon for new posts!
