Hello, bookworms, and welcome to my review of Legendborn by Tracy Deonn! I really loved this book and am so excited to talk about it, so let's get started! This review is spoiler-free, so feel free to keep reading even if you haven't read this book yet.
Legendborn begins with Bree grieving after the loss of her mother in a car accident. Bree needs to escape, so she enrolls in a residential program for bright high schoolers at UNC. Then, her first night there, she witnesses a magical attack, throwing her headfirst into a mysterious world of secret societies, Arthurian legends, and flying demons. Bree is convinced that the secret society called "Legendborn" knows how her mother truly died, and she is determined to uncover those secrets. But Bree must decide how much she is willing to risk in order to discover the truth--and whether she will join Legendborn's fight or destroy the society. I absolutely loved this book! It immediately sucked me in and immersed me in its magical, mysterious world. There were so many details and terms, which made the world seem very realistic; my only complaint is that I wish the terms ("Legendborn," "Merlin," etc) had been explained more clearly since it was a bit tricky for me to understand at first. The characters were wonderfully crafted, and I loved how diverse the cast of characters was; this book is full of great representation! Legendborn also discusses important topics like racial inequality and grief after losing someone you love, both of which protagonist Bree deals with frequently in the book. The magic in this book was so cool, and the plot twists were fantastic--one of them made me gasp and gape at the page! Bree is a main character whom you will root for until the end; she's a strong girl who fights for what she believes in, and I admire her grit and stubbornness. I also enjoyed reading about the mysterious and brooding Selwyn Kane. It was interesting to learn more about him throughout the book, and I liked how he and Bree were both similar and contrasting in various ways. This was an amazing start to this new series, and I'm so eager to read the next book when it comes out! I can't recommend this book enough, and I hope that you'll pick it up and give it a read! Thank you so much for reading my review of Legendborn. I gave this book Four Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. I especially recommend this book for anyone looking for a diverse, magical book with amazing world-building!
